8/17: James Michael Keats - Show Notes

Happy Monday! James Michael Keats here with you here on KCast Radio from Noon to 3pm today and every mid-day Monday through Friday! Check out the show notes from my set today; I've got some real goodies you gotta check out if you missed me this afternoon.

Noon - 1pC: Is Apple really making a car?

  • Back in 2014, Apple began work on a super secret "Project Titan" at its super secret location nearby its Cupertino, Cali headquarters.

  • Upwards of 1,000 employees were either reassigned from other departments or hired away from other companies to work on Project Titan, which was at that time rumored to be an electric vehicle. Within just a couple of years, in 2016, the rumor mill began churning out reports that the project had encountered serious personnel and technical difficulties which assumably resulted in the shelving of Project Titan.

  • After a huge shake-up inside Apple and under the leadership of Bob Mansfield, Apple's Senior Vice President of Technologies, Apple is said to have transitioned to building an autonomous driving system rather than a full car, which could potentially be used in the cars of partner companies rather like an operating system.

  • Obviously, the automotive market is ripe for disruption and has been for years; and Apple, being the innovative technology giant they are, couldn't simply allow Tesla, under the inimitable Elon Musk, to have all the fun. I mean, he's making freggin' rockets, he's aiming to land humans on Mars, and he's closer to making self-driving automobiles a reality than any other company presently attempting to do so, and Apple just couldn't sit idly by and allow all that to go on without throwing their own ideas into the mix.

  • The race to be the first company to launch a viable, fully-autonomous vehicle into the market is on, and this will truly be an important race to watch, indeed. You and I are about to witness a true paradigm shift very soon, and it'll really be something to behold as these two extremely resourceful and innovative companies go head-to-head. Here are a couple pictures of Apple's development vehicles apparently tasked with gathering data to use in their AI software that'll potentially be doing all the driving for us so we can screw around on Facebook and YouTube on the way to wherever.

1pC - 2pC: Jurassic Park hit theaters in 1993, directed by none other than the legendary Steven Spielberg, and the film is often lauded as a near perfect example of what a blockbuster should look like insofar as form, production, spectacle, and pacing is concerned. Even still, the film does have its flaws, like all films do to some extent. Critics pretty much unanimously agree that Jurassic Park's flaws are, indeed, few; but ironically, we apparently all missed this particular goof-up until it was just recently spotted and reported online by a Reddit user… it has literally been in front of us for nearly three decades!

  • At this point, more than 800 users have commented on the original post, and pretty much everyone admitted they had never caught this boo-boo before despite having seen the film countless times. I sure didn't know about it! Honestly, this particular scene is so nerve racking, even now, that I would have forgotten to look for bloopers even if I was hired by the production to do so back in '93, ha! You'll definitely want to check out the original post here if you're a Jurassic Park fan. My girlfriend and I literally just watched it last week, and it never gets old.

2pC - 3pC: Blue Oyster Cult ROCKS, and their highly anticipated album The Symbol Remains comes out on October 9th this year (2020).

  • This album artwork is absolutely sick! It looks like something from out of a movie: super cinematic.

  • Blue Oyster Cult has also released the track list for the new album, and it goes like this...

  • "That Was Me"

  • "Box in My Head"

  • "Tainted Blood"

  • "Nightmare Epiphany"

  • "Edge of the World"

  • "The Machine"

  • "Train True (Lennie's Song)"

  • "The Return of St. Cecilia"

  • "Stand and Fight"

  • "Florida Man"

  • "The Alchemist"

  • "Secret Road"

  • "There's a Crime"

  • "Fight"

  • The band has changed form a bit over the years, and this is the first time the band, in its current form, has ever recorded a studio album as they have before only recorded live concerts. It looks to be a completely epic album, and I can't wait to get hold of the tracks for KCast Radio.

  • The guys have been super busy, apparently, as they also just released their 45th Anniversary - Live In London album earlier this month on August 7. Check out this video of "Stairway to the Stars" from that concert. It's excellent.
